Images of a Shanghai garden, where one of the owners grew up, loosely inspired the layout of this garden. The Shanghai garden’s exposed aggregate concrete walkway is replicated here with warm-colored Salmon Bay pebbles. Regional boulders were selected in ‘pitted’ shapes typical of classical Chinese designs. Lush plantings of both evergreen and deciduous plants are primarily native to China; climate-appropriate highlights provide local context. Feng shui elements of wood, fire, metal, water and earth are incidental or inferred. Buddha takes pride of place nestled in the shade.
